2008 Explorer Gear Shift Assembly

2008 Explorer Gear Shift Assembly
My wifes Exploder has been giving me fits this past week. The dome lights have been coming on while driving. After searching found out the ignition switch needs to be replaced. This is the second one in 5 years.
The alternator fried itself on Friday. Second one in 5 years.
Now along with that, the key would not come out of the old or new ignition switchs. After searching again, found out its the pin that activates the switch on the center console. Ripped it apart, pushed the pin in and out comes the key.
I have not found any fixes for this. I have found replacement assemblies, but at $150 -$200, that seems steep for what might hopefully be a simple fix. So here I am asking if anyone has had this issue and how you fixed it.

I guess its FUBAR. Looked at it again tonight. Something is draining the battery and the gear shifter does not lock into park. I can change gears with the key removed.
Has anyone ever replaced one of these?
