I don't think I've heard anyone say they had a LN burn up yet..... anyone?
The Chinese wannabes - yes. The orIgonals - not due to the fault of the product. We've only had two warranty claims on them. In the one case, the factory pigtail had been replaced and the previous owner wired it in backwards and in the other, the customer thought it was reasonable to torque the charge stud to 71 foot pounds.
I went with the l n with an installed smaller pulley last year and have been very happy. I spent over 34 years in fire service and most of our equipment had ln's installed and I only observed 1 replacement of the unit and that might have been a mechanic throwing parts. I also added the upgraded wiring
I'll throw in my 2 cents. I'm on my second DC unit and after reading the instructions that came with it, I have a clear understanding of what to expect from any alternator:
They are not designed to charge low\dead\abused batteries. They are designed to maintain a set of HEALTHY batteries. That is all.
Technically, they are there to provide electrical power for electrical components and replenish the batteries from normal starting events, a short term event. Glad you're on board that you shouldn't use them for a full recharge of depleted batteries after reading the instructions, but the biggest take-a-way for me is you're on your second DC alternator. Is that because of the aforementioned warning and new understanding, or that well, darn it, it just went bad?

For the decades I did field work for other things, the Prestolite's were always there at commercial and transit fleet operations with good comments about them from the maintenance staff.

The first one died within a few weeks of installing it, the second one sat in my garage for a LONG time cause I had to put an emergency Autozone replacement in my Excursion. Really the biggest pain with a DC unit is not getting a warranty replacement the same day.
ive installed the new bosch and it seems to be working fine. Time will see how well it does. but it is charging 14v with everything on. Im happy with it.
I have 5 million miles over the road miles in class 8 trucks, 90+% of which had Leece Neville alternators and had only 1 have an issue when the charge wire chaffed and connected to ground and melted the output terminal, the shop just replaced the terminal and it worked for at least another 100K , then I traded the truck on a new one.

It never failed while I ran it. I think it's a good option.
When just started or after a good run? Are you using the stock size pulley or the smaller one?

Wherever I saw them people had nothing bad to say.

Running smaller pulley. The one off the D.C. Power didn't fit right so I had to order. I replaced tensioner and belt too. I get 12 at startup on scanguage while glowplugs are on. After that I'm seeing 13.9.
