Tried to replace a map light bulb in my 2008 5.4L F150. I got the overhead console down and noticed i broke a couple plastic pieces that held the flimsy metal clips in place. They crossed and shorted then my radio, instrument cluster etc. went out. I replaced a fuse (forget which one) then everything worked except my gas gauge reads below E and now my map and dome lights don't manually turn on by clicking or sliding. Besides that they work when doors open and when i turn the dimmer switch all the way up. Any help would be appreciated!
It looks like the map lights contain 2 bulbs, one bulb is controlled by a pwm output from the instrument cluster (circuit 53-BK/LB) and the second bulb is powered by fuse 24 through the battery saver relay (circuit 705-LG/OG) and there is a switch in each map light that controls these bulbs individually. When you open the doors or turn the dimmer switch up all the way, the IC powers the bulbs on circuit 53. Circuit 705 should have power pretty much all the time, except when the vehicle has been parked untouched for an extended period of time, then the IC shuts down the battery saver relay to prevent killing the battery if an interior light is left on. Check fuse 24, check that the battery saver relay is switching on, and that you have power to the map lights on the LG/OG color wire.
As for the fuel gauge, it is an almost completely unrelated circuit, with the IC as the only common device between them, so I'm not sure what to say about that other than suggesting simple electrical circuit troubleshooting as a start.
I was having the same issue and thought my fuel sending unit went bad. Decided to check fuses first. #21 was good but #24 was bad. Replaced it and the fuel gauge is working again! Thanks!
I have the same problem but I do not know what fuse to change. To be able to fix everything that got
