2013 6.2L Towing Performance
Hi guys,
I have a '13 with a 6.2L, Platinum, not Raptor. I'm just looking for input from those that have had tunes done. Obviously the truck has plenty of power, but the torque band is typical of a gas...all at the upper RPM levels.
I'm towing about 6k pounds. In hilly areas or when pulling out into traffic it's just a little frustrating, I feel like I can't take advantage of the power until I get the RPM's way up there.
What improvements would I experience with a tune?
Thanks!

I'm not worried about hurting it, I'm worried about performance off the line. The dyno in my foot tells me it's upper RPM's. And I have seen charted dyno results. Torque levels off from around 2000-3500.
Anyway, I'm not here to debate what it is, I'm trying to get other's experience using custom tunes.

I also have a 6.2 Limited 4x4 3.73 up until now it's been fully stock except for the muffler. I just ordered a SCT4 tuner from 5 Star Tuning who also have tuned my other trucks. I'm VERY curious how it will change the 6.2. I can tell there is torque management going on in the factory tune and not so great throttle response.
Factory and towing my travel trailer it did wonderful, going up and down the mountains. I do use the transmission selectability to lock out 6th and sometimes 5th gear to keep it humming along. Off the line power I feel like its awesome though! But I've never been one to shy away from planting my foot to the floor.

CuNmUdF250, thanks! Can I borrow 35 grand? The new ones are nice but I don't like how you lose so much back seat space. And honestly, I don't want that much bigger truck for everyday driver.
AlaskanEX, as you said, torque management and lacking throttle response are what I'm experiencing. The power is there, I just feel like I need to unleash it!

Nawtyflier,
Get the SCT tuner with the 5 Star tunes. It should eliminate the problems you are facing. I have the 5.0 and have seen very significant improvement with the tuner. I have no issues with off the line acceleration. The Selectshift 6R80/3.55 axles get my truck and 6000# travel trailer "off and running". At cruising rpm, I wish I had a little more gear. But, locking out one, or both OD's, does well. You should definitely see a big difference with your 6.2 engine.

I know what you're talking about with the soft bottom end (giggity). I think the biggest benefit of a tuner would not be so much in actual low RPM power gains, but in raising the shift points so it'll turn up higher before shifting, without having to have your foot deep in the throttle. I did this on the '05 and it helped a lot. Different transmission/different animal but same basic idea.

I dont know, I have only been part of this forum for like 15 minutes, but you seem to hate on the EB worse then the Ram and Chevy guys on youtube. It's the same rhetoric they spew. Outside of your little world there are hundreds of thousand, maybe millions, of people who have had nothing but great experiences with EB's.
I find it really interesting too, because I dont hate on the 5.0, 6.2, Hemi or the GM motors. I respect all of them, and if I didnt live at 6500' I could certainly have been in any of those trucks. Did the EB do something to you?
