Not sure about the spring. I think it springs back but I'll have to check that part also. This thing is turning into a real nightmare.

Shift lever retained to the collar with upper and lower trunnions (2-C0AA-7B125-A), with a coil spring (01A-7208-A) in between.

These parts are obsolete, available NOS

When you own a 50 year old vehicle, you have to expect that parts wear out, will need to be replaced.

I've been down 'this road' many times, because I've owned more vehicles (mostly cars) than any other member of this forum.
