I've had a CEL for awhile so I final had it checked. It is the P0605 pcm memory error. He cleared it to see if it will come back. There isn't any chip or never has been a chip in it as far as I know. If it does end up being the pcm, what are my options? can it be repaired? Do I need a new one? Can I get a used one and if so what are the criteria I need to look for, for it to be compatible? Thank you.
I hadn't had them out for quite a while. It cranks over slow so after it was read and reset I pull the connections and cleaned them and put the charger on one of the batteries. But it seems to crank over real good after charging batteries but over time it gets slower. The alternator seems to be putting out around 13.4v. not sure if a draw somewhere.
First step is to have your alternator checked at an electrical shop. If one or more diodes have failed (shorted) you could have excessive alternating current voltage. This reduces the amount of direct current available to charge the batteries (could explain the 13.4 volt reading).
Also, have your batteries load tested. If one is failing, it may have a lower internal resistance, causing excessive current draw on the alternator. This again can cause a low alternator voltage.
Check all of the big cables and their terminations for corrosion and looseness--a cause for low voltage.
The reason to have this problem fixed first, is that the brains of your truck rely on solid electrical power to run properly. Your code could be caused by electrical problems.
