Hey, my diesel mechanic went on a trip to Tennesee I think it was,and visited a shop down there. He came back warning me of injection pump failures and said it was a matter of when, not if they fail.
I haven't heard,or seen anything on here about it, have any of you guys heard of this?
He mentioned a company that sells a disaster prevention kit by S n S diesel.
He has also tried to talk me into a Fass fuel system...do I really need these?
My thoughts are no, you don't. Sounds like someone is trying to sell you something that isn't needed and wanting to make a few $$$.
There are many 6.7 on the highway from 2011 through current 2017's that do not have any problems. You have to remember that forums and mechanics only hear about a small percentage of problems, troubles or issues with certain engines/vehicles. These problems seem to magnify a problem to unrealistic proportions. You never hear about all the millions of engines or trucks that NEVER have a problem.
But, it is your money, spend it according to you worries or concerns.
You can search on here for HPFP failures. Any I've heard of are caused by bad fuel or putting non-diesel into the tank (gas, DEF, etc). As long as you fuel at a high volume quality vendor then you should be fine as long as you don't screw up.
Well, guys; I DID have problems with my '15!! It started around 450 miles, which was I believe to have been an electronic glitch that could not identify.
Then progressed to low pressure pump (low fuel pressure). Once, then again a second time, then again a third time. Which at this point, I hauled the rig back to the selling dealer, and told them I wanted to KNOW what was causing the issue. They dug for a couple of days, then came to me and said the complete fuel system needed replacing,,,,,HPFP, injectors, everything. They took about a dozen fuel samples, and said had to warranty the system, but that the '15 system was on backorder. This gave me the leverage to get a good trade for my '16. I have no idea if the '15 got fixed by replacing the fuel system, or if more problems occurred, because I was done with it. My '16 has been flawless!!
I still think there was something wrong, electronically that ultimately caused the fuel system failure. I tried going the lemon law route, but the state that I bought it in will only lemon law up to 10,000 lb GVW.
No one is saying there has been no problems with the 6.7 fuel system or other issues. Most have stated that forums and some repair shops make a few problems appear to affect all the trucks. And yes, ,some trucks and electronics/PCM/ECU/etc do come from factory with problems. but their numbers are not a high percentage.
Most of the issues engine/HPFP come from someone introducing water, DEF, gasoline or some foreign liquid into the fuel tank. That is one reason early on I installed a STANT locking diesel fuel filler cap. I also make a habit of not having the fuel cap and DEF cap off at same time. I pull away from the diesel pumps before filling the DEF tank from a junk.
Just as you had trouble with your 2015, I have not had any trouble with mine in the 3 and 34,000 miles.

Exactly!! And this is regardless of the brand of truck one chooses to buy!! And as stated, I don't know if there was an electronic glitch that ultimately caused the failure, or if the HPFP was the culprit all along. I no longer trusted *THAT* truck, but whenI traded, the '16 I traded for was identical to the '15!! KR, dually, Bronze Fire/Caribou. There are a couple differences in the different model year, but they are insignificant! And like you, never have the blue and the green cap off at the same time, I also leave the damn phone in the cab when fueling, do not want any help when fueling, and regardless of the color of the hose I make sure I push the "DIESEL" button on the pump and if the hose isn't slimy, better double check myself.

Exactly. And for what it's worth, when my truck was two years old I had the fifth gear solenoid replaced due to intermittent hard shifting. Other than that it's been LOF for 67,000 miles. Still runs great.
I have heard of multiple Duramaxs that suffered pump and injection failure yet I have heard very few issues of pump failure on the 6.7. Not brand bashing just stating facts.
