New project and need info on six cylinder engines that will fit using oem mounts. Engine I have is missing the cylinder head and is seized. Most of the easily removed parts are gone as well. Three speed on the column is in place. I'd like to replace the engine and standard transmission with a later model six and automatic, but retain the original mounts. Would also like to use a modern ignition and the split exhaust manifolds. What years and models will fit? If there posts on this subject I can't find them. Thanks in advance.
Thanks Joseph, the problem/challenge is getting an 6 cylinder engine that will install using the front "steady rest" motor mount and the side mounts at the bell housing. I'd like to make this a bolt in deal. May not be able to do that since I don't know of any C4 or C6 with bell housing mounts. I havent id'd the engine yet since when I looked at the truck it was not for sale. Later the fellow called and and we BS'd about his plans for the truck and I asked if he would sell it if I provided the sheet metal for his Baja truck project. I was very happy when he agreed. I will take my time on this project and build a streetable driver with all Ford parts. The power train is a blank page at this time. Appreciate any input!

If it's a True '64, it's either a 223 I6 or a 262 I6 & not a '65 sold in '64, 240 I6 or 300 I6.
Ya with those mounts described it won't be bolt in, and I don't see you putting a later model six in there with the mounts for the older engine unless you fabricate your own and it would just be alot easier to swap in the motor perches/ tranny mount from a newer truck.
Yes it is a 223. I am looking for a complete 223 in good or better condition. Everything is gone on mine except the block, bell and transmission. I undersand that a Ford o matic (small) will fit. Meanwhile I'll look for a engine. Want to keep the 223 for economy. I only drive around local and don't tow or haul. Fuel mileage is becoming more important than before. And I am in no hurry on this one.
Tried to do a search in your area for engine blocks, but no joy.
You'd be better off looking in your Local Junk/Wrecking Yards, asking members of your Local Classic Car/Truck Clubs, the Truck/Parts for sale Magazines you find in 7/11 & such.
There are a couple of complete 223 I6's in a wrecking yard near me for $500.00-$600.00, plus S&H.
