I have a stock 1996 F150 302 4x4. I'm wanting to do an engine build on it in the near future due to lack of power and a puff of smoke every now and then out of the exhaust. My question is,,, if I do some performance upgrades like a bigger cam or something, will I have to upgrade the computer or will it still work in stock form? Thanks
Your cam builder will be able to provide you with the best information...especially since advertised specs are just that...and not the actual profiles......
That is an OBD2 MAF computer so it will adapt to upgrades as long as they don't push any part of the system beyond it's limits. An example of that would be airflow upgrades that push the fuel supply system beyond it's supply limits. If you do exceed some limits that computer can be tuned so you have options.

MAF will accept any reasonable cam upgrades you throw at it. However, I wouldn't waste upgrades on a motor that has blow-by or worn valve stem guides. Speaking from personal experience, I wouldn't build a 302 for your truck, you'll be disappointed. Either build a 347 out of your 302, or put a 351 in the truck.
