My son and I bought a 72 F100 Ranger rotten to heck and back. Not sure there is a body part that is whole. Frame appears solid engine and tranny appear solid. We are the 3rd owner was an old farm truck supposedly has 92k original miles. We have installed a new water pump and new rebuilt carb that is it so far. Seems to run fine but when you hit the gas at about 2000 rpm seems to back fire almost a grinding sound I think the exhaust has some holes but need some advice on that issue. Rear brake lights do not work. Parking brake front cable is stretched but that is minor and easy to fix I think.
The 17yr old wants to do an IFS from a lincoln or marquis front swap. I have seen one project lay out and it seems relatively straight forward. In addition to the independent suspension up front it gives us power steering and disc brakes up front. Which this manual steering drum brake beast would be alot easier to handle afterwards.
My question to you all is what should we start with?
I also have a 2wd AX15 I intend to put behind the 302 with an adapter from Advanced Adapters.
Also any diagrams, vacuum, wiring, exhaust, engine, tranny would be great I have one engine bay diagram from a 68 hoping it is the same for 72?
Looking forward to the next 2 years with the youngest!
Not a newb to restoring just finished an 88 Jeep YJ upgrade with the older boy we can weld and metal fab what we need. Just need some advice on where to start once we remove the body.
Welcome to FTE and the Bumpside Kingdom.
Sounds like you ought to start finding a cab and other reoplacement sheetmetal panels while you're doing the C/V (Crown Vic) swap. Note. One from a Police Car won't lower the front end quite as much. You'll also have to decide which way you are going to lower the rear. The C/V and your truck's back axles have two different bolt patterns for the wheels. For a whole bunch of info go to page two, posts #21 and #22 of Hio Silver's compilation sticky at the top of our page.

Welcome. As Jeff mentioned, you might want to also install a CV, GM rear axle to keep the same bolt pattern , front and rear. 2003 and up Crown Vics, Grand Marquis. Browse craigslist for a complete vehicle. Many times pretty cheap.
