Ford Dash Pad Restoration
Does anybody have any ideas on how to restore the dash pad on my F-150? I don't really want to purchase a new one, nor do I want to cover it. I was looking around at restoration techniques but have not found any that really sounds like a possibilty. I am willing just to cover the speaker hole and paint the dash but how would you fill the cracks?

I know you said you don't want to cover it but by that do you mean you don't want to cover it with a carpet type cover? My 86 had cracks all over the place and I didn't want to pay the dealer's $680 (at the time) for a new dash. Instead, I was told to get a "Coverlay" from an upholstery shop. It's not carpet (which I didn't want either) but a hard plastic form-fitted cover that glues on top of the old dash. It's painted to match the existing interior color and you'd be hard pressed to tell it wasn't a brand new dash. Take a look:

Try "Just Dashes" (www.justdashes.com). They will strip the old vinyl and foam, then add new foam and shrink new vinyl on the dash pad. Looks factory stock. Not cheap, but worth it on a restored truck.
