I have been looking around to get the payload capacity info, but am only able to find info on payload capacity with a slide in camper (which is about 1780 lbs). Does anyone have the link for this info? I'm looking at getting a 17 w/ the 3.5 turbo, supercrew, 6.5 bed 4X4 XLT and a 3.55 rear end. Towing wise, I know the truck will do it, but I am concerned about maxing out payload, especially if its below 2000 lbs.
I'm thinking about coming over from a 2000 f250 4x4 with a 7.3. I do not have any payload concerns currently, because I have never been above 2000 lbs (including 800 lbs hitch weight).
But I wonder if you can do the 2700 lbs with the F-150 plus supercrew, plus 6.5' bed, plus 4x4. Try, but I'm guessing that is just not going to happen.
Go to build and price. GVWR is 7600 on an XL and 7850 on XLT and Lariat. Subtract that from the crb wieght and you have the payload. My truck, SuperCrew, 6.5, 4x4 has a registered curb weight of 5000 lbs. If I had the HD Payload Pkg I would have 2850 lbs of payload vs the 2050 I have now.

Just did that. I had to go through a straight and narrow configuration on an XLT. You can do it, but no 302A equipment package; no chrome appearance; no sport appearance, no wheel well liners, etc. etc. It can be done, but it certainly limits your options. I don't think you can do it with a Lariat (but I didn't try either).
The higher trim level trucks do limit payload quite a bit. I don't have the order guide in front of me, but on the website it seems like GlueGuy is correct, you can't get the payload package unless it's a 300A truck. I THINK the payload package required the 3.73 Locking axle, although I'm not sure about that.
My rule of thumb is that half ton trucks these days run out of payload long before they run out of "trailer weight rating". It's fine if you are like me and only carrying firewood and beer in the bed of the truck, but if you want to carry anything properly heavy while towing, usually a super duty would serve you better.
You can get the HD Payload on a Lariat, but once again it forces a base configuration. With an XLT or the Lariat, Build and Price won't allow a center console. However it will with an XL. I've heard that the 2018s will allow for more options.
Basically, If I have the 7000 GVWR, I can have a payload of 2060. I think this is with the 3.55 rear end. If I get the Max Payload, I can have 2420 lbs with the 17" wheels or 2650 with 18" wheels. with a 3.73 rear. The 7000 would be cutting it close and I figure that I can shave another 100 lbs for options. My guestimate for weight would be 800 lb hitch weight, 700 for passengers 150 for dogs, 150 for cap. That would leave 150 lbs for all our other crap. Doable, but too close. Max Payload package seems the only way to go to be on the safe side.
