Supercharged 5.0 mpg?

Is there anybody out there with a non-centrifugal supercharger

What kind of mpg do you get on the highway?

I may plan on getting a tsv blower
The truck would be a supercrew 5 1/2 box 4x4
Daily driver 90% highway hence the mpg question
Almost zero towing
Im diciplined enough to cruse at 65/70 mph fot

Im looking to buy a new f150 i was leaning toward a 3.5 ecoboost..but dealers in my area are stuck with a bunch of 5.0 some are 2016 and we are mid 2017

I would not mind getting a 60 000$ cnd truck for around 45 000$ cnd and spend the saved dollars on a dealer installed and warrantied roush super charger (7000 usd plus install)

The Ford dealership in Canada will not sell you a car. If they get caught, Ford will drop the dealership. Ford has been looking into vehicle registrations in some states.

Id figure i could be understood by more readers

I can't think anyone has added a SC to the 5.0 on the forum yet. Sounds like a fun idea, but I've never had/used one. If I was in your shoes, I'd probably estimate the MPGs to drop by 25% and see how that fits into my master plan. I think that's very high, but who knows. I'd rather plan for the worst and be happy than be off on MPGs and regret the upgrade.

But, that's a complete stab in the dark...

If stock numbers are say about 15 city and 22 highway, you may end up being about 19 highway and 13 city. Could be better or worse, depending on conditions. May have to go to a 3rd party shop to get the blower installed, if the dealership is not allowed to do it. But if they are not allowed to add forced induction into an engine from concept to production was set up for it, especially the Mustang version, then why are some allowed to add lift kits and oversized tires to their existing lot vehicles?

There's a reason they call engines with superchargers "blown".

I come from the diesel world where bigger injectors bigger turbo means more power and more miles per gallon. Some set ups can also be detuned in order to achieve better mpg or releif some stress on the crank

I understand that a screw supercharger cant really vacuum air in at crusing speed unlike a turbo

But i was wondering if there is any blower with some sort of internal bybass that could help to run in a more n/a fashion

A 600hp truck its going to suck up gas no mather what ...thats the nature of the beast
But if detuning is achievable that would be great

Best of both worlds

I've toyed with the idea before. A stripped down short bed RC truck for around $25k and then a $7k blower. Would probably be more fun than a Mustang for the same price (other than the automatic)

Technically speaking, a turbocharger is just an exhaust driven supercharger... so your EB is double blown! But yeah, Ford probably has done a little bit more work on the focus of longevity compared to a performance specific aftermarket setup that sells on power numbers alone.

I never actually built the truck, just always thought it sounded like a great idea. Any time you're working with forced induction, it really varies on how hard you press the fun button. The highway steady speed won't make too much difference, it's the acceleration when she get's thirsty. I see it on the EB motors. Folks who drive easy get pretty close and sometimes better than the sticker. Folks who want to feel the power each and every light will get bad economy. And the scale is much wider than on a NA motor.

Just curious...

What would the installation of a supercharger do to the warranty?

Not knowing Canadian emissions laws, would a dealership be allowed to sell a vehicle that has had it's engine modified with non-factory certified parts?

Generally it voids the power train, but parts not affected by the super charger would still be covered.

I look at it more as the supercharger provides boost relative to engine RPM, but the turbo provides boost relative to throttle.

IOW, if the engine is running 5,000 RPM with the throttle closed, the supercharger will be boosting like crazy, while the turbocharger might actually be spooling down.

If you go with Ford racing there is warranty for some superchargers. Check the Ford racing site.
