Pulling a fifth wheel

Has anyone out there had any experience with pulling a fifth wheel camper with their excursion using one of those dolly things

Do you have "one of those dolly things"? They are VERY expensive IF you can actually find one, that plus the additional length (may put you over max length in many states), tolls (for the extra axle), maintenance, weight and more crappy ST tires to deal with makes finding a TT with a good floorplan much more appealing. At least to me.

F-650 Ex conversion = Pics or it didn't happen!
A 43' fiver behind an EX with a tow-buddy dolly will be well over several states max length for a towed camper, my 41' (hitch to bumper) TT behind my EX at 61' is over in a handful of states, but doesn't garner nearly the attention that a fiver behind an SUV would.
What is the GVWR of the 43' fiver? and how much does that dolly weigh?
I have no idea what " i wish they were dialled up" means here?

Use a 3rd party hosting site like Photobucket or tinypic then copy and paste the [IMG code] to your post here. Or as Matt explains here in this "Read first" thread from the top of this forum page. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/8...ead-first.html

A dually EX is a cool novelty, but since the Tow Buddy type dollys don't transfer any tongue weight to the tow vehicle dual rear wheels wouldn't be a real benefit.

Don't do it-hypothetically speaking. Something like a "Tow Buddy" Dolly thingy would remove all testosterone from the X. Please do not emasculate it. It would not look cool and cool comes first!!!!

Hey Tom, isn't the max length 65ft in most states. I remember reading that somewhere. maybe its in IL.

Either way, an F650 Excursion with the tag axle pictured should be able to handle the fiver. although at 43ft that is a long fiver! not sure how something like that will handle?

65' in many states, 60' in some with a few even shorter, like NJ where I bought my TT.
State Towing Laws
Many states have laws that have not been updated in decades to keep pace with RV evolution over time. Some states limit Class A motorhome length to only 40', so that would rule out nearly every tag axle unit. Of course many of these laws are also never enforced.
