Hi all, I stumbled on something here in FTE about Fords new oil spec for Powerstrokes. I have been using Rotella T6 since the first change. Apparently Ford does not like the new CK-4 oils in these motors. Another member posted a chart showing the oils that meet spec WSS-M2C171-F1 and the only oil I recognize from the list is Valvoline extreme blue. I cannot find it anywhere at my local retail outlets. Before I double my cost for an oil change, I assume we all are stuck using Motorcraft 5W-40 from the dealer until the rest of the manufacturers can meet Ford's new spec? I couldn't find anything on Shell's website about meeting the new spec.
This is a 2015 Superduty and when it doesn't hvbe my boat behind it, I am hauling around 8000lbs worth of tractor so I tow frequently which is why I have been using synthetic. It's kind of funny that the new oils don't mix with these engines and I never heard about it from Ford but had to "by chance" see it on FTE! I guess what I am asking is, is there any latest info concerning oils that we must still use one from the list?
I got a couple cases of Valvoline PBE and the words "rated for CK-4" is not on the bottles in addition to CJ-4. I'm sure it is still on the approved list, right?
Here is the list, last updated 3 days ago. You have many choices of CK-4 Oils you can use. I have not looked this over, but here it is. These new oils are not going to double our oil change cost.
