I don't think that there is such a thing anymore. From what I have found these particular steering boxes have not been made for years. Some a referred to as "new rebuilt" with rebuilt being the operative word here.

You might be right about that? I don't recall a distinction like that, maybe I missed that detail

technically, they are marketed as re-manufactured, but:
Motorcraft provides high-quality, vehicle-specific replacement parts recommended by Ford Motor Company.

Features
Torsion bar type of hydraulic-assisted steering system, sometimes called a rotary valve (RV) or XR-50 gear
Include new sector shafts
Gear housing that does not meet stringent inspection standards is replaced with new original equipment gear housing
Remanufacturing process includes precise ball sizing – not a "one-size-fits-all" approach – to ensure correct amount of steering effort, reducing play in the steering that could lead to comebacks
Replacement parts are 100% original equipment
The sector shafts are NEW. Whereas Redhead says they flame spray and straighten used sector shafts.

Unless it meets "stringent inspections standards", Ford re-mans get a NEW housing. Redhead machines out worn housings and installs oversize needle bearings; which they claim is better then new. It probably is, but the originals lasted 10-15 years and hundreds of thousands of miles. Is "better" really of much benefit here?

Whats the scoop here, did this ever happen? Just had my 02 F250 in the shop for a front end inspection and they said I need new ball joints and a new steering gearbox. Definitely going to do the ball joints as I want to get new tires this winter. Thinking i'll do the gear box as well.
