I saw the info on one of the threads but dont remember now, Ill try to locate. I do remember that we needed to purchase 15 units to get the first price reduction. After that, the more we purchase the better the price.
Im going to start a thread in '73-'79 forum,(thats my truck), so help spread the word and get all interested parties to reply there please so I dont have to run all over the board to keep up with quantities.
Thanks, Carl
Rebuilt to be bullet proof. Bearings instead of bushings, stronger shaft. Check out the website.
Essentially your buying the last power steering gear box you'll ever need.
How difficult is it to replace a steering box? Is it something I can do alone? Or will I need to bribe some buddies with pizza and beer?
You should have some GOOD QUALITY flare nut wrenches to loosen the fluid lines from the steering box so you don't round off the fittings. You will also need a puller or pickle fork to remove the drag link from the pitman arm. Other than a good selection of ordinary hand tools that should get the steering box removed from the truck. Then you will probably need a puller to remove the pitman arm from the steering box.
As far as reinstalling the steering box. Assuming you are reasonably strong to lift the steering box in place, the only help you will probably need is to line up the input shaft to the shaft coming from the steering wheel, and maybe push the mounting bolts going through the frame, through the steering box. A 10 year old child should be able to do those jobs.
It's been a while since I R&Red a steering box, that's all I can think of.
