Hello. I wanted to ask something of the experts on thisforum. I have a 2001 F250 HD gas engine. I have had this truck since 2010. Idrive it only occasionally and had not driven it in a few weeks so decided todrive it the other day. I drove about 30 minutes with about half of that on theinterstate. It was a fairly hot day mid 80s and I had the AC running. I parkedit at a very slight forward downhill position. When I came out after 45 minutesI saw a puddle of antifreeze in front of the vehicle. When I looked underneaththe truck it was primarily dripping from the oil filter canister but also froma couple of other places. I was down about 4 inches in the reservoir. My smalltruck camper is on the vehicle and I had my coolant container in there. Itopped it off and traveled about 10 minutes on surface streets to my next stop. After about two hours there I came out to the truck to leave and there was nota drop. I then drove 25 minutes home with a little on the interstate runningthe AC and when I got home not a drop. I got up underneath it and looked allaround and couldn't really see an obvious source. My neighbor is a mechanic ofsorts and I asked him about it. He had a couple of theories but one involvedthe heater. He said to crank it up, let it warm up, and turn the heat on andsee if I smelled anti-freeze. I did that and there was not a smell at all. Healso said something about a cold leak. Any ideas. Thanks. Raleigh.
I would ask you if you tried parking down hill again and tried to reproduce the leak. If it didn't leak then I honestly, for myself would chalk it up to (PROBABLY) the T-Stat may have stuck a little bit and puked a little. That's where I'd start anyway.
I have a 2011 F350 6.2l - around the second year I had it, I had to add coolant a few times. Never saw any leaks (park it in a garage). After that second year, I've never had to add any more. No clue what was causing it. For what it's worth.......
