CEL comes on when the she warms up a bit, not showing any codes. However the ICP is reading like it isn't there, reading 751 plugged in or not. I replaced it with one from Ford, no change. It takes about 5 minutes on the road (or high idle) for her to start acting the fool. sounds like she is missing, but passed the buzz test. I have a guy with a snap-on scanner but he has about 15 trucks in front of mine....pretty much the only diesel ford guy worth anything for 100 miles.
I opened up the harness and none of the wiring looks bad. Any ideas what could be causing the PCM to think that the ICP isn't there?
How did you check that it was reading 751 psi plugged in or not?
With a new Ford sensor, I'd start looking at the harness to the icp sensor. 750 is about what the default reading is when the icp loses signal, which you probably already knew, so if the sensor is in tact and known to be good...then the harness should be checked. It is not uncommon for oil to be forced into the wires as the sensor fails to keep oil from getting forced through the sensor itself and then into the plug (which is why icp sensor plugs are sold like hotcakes). Start there, then trace back....without a scanner I'd stick to the easy stuff.
I went over to the guy's shop and he plugged into it. He had a little time for minor diagnostics. the only other thing that was reading off, but not enough to raise an eyebrow, was the EPV... gotta clean or change that.
Yes clean the ebps, the 7.3 uses all of its sensors to run optimally but without the feedback from one or more then it starts to run like poop. 7.3s are finicky, stick to the free stuff until you get scan time. If you're keeping your truck a while, just buy a scanner.
You could probe the wires in the harness a ways back from plug and check resistance, that'd tell you if they're ruined from oil injection. Any harness replacement is fine
You can also see oil in the plug and sensor when this does occur
I actually have a bluetooth adapter for the obd2 port, however my truck won't talk to anything... and if I try to read codes when the truck is running it shuts the truck off.
On the bright side, I replaced the IPR and we are back in business.
