Fellow Ford Fans,
I have recently purchased a set of 17" Aluminum Lincoln Navigator Wheels to to replace the 16" wheels on my 2003 F-150. At about 60 bucks, it was not what I was seeking but too good to turn down as they were in near perfect condition. If I choose to install them on my 2003 Reg Cab Flairside truck, this will be an upgrade from 16" wheels to 17" wheels. The standard sizing for these on the Navigator is 265x70x17. Some F-150's of 2002-2003 were equipped with 17" wheels with certain packages. The Revs per mile, according to Tire Rack, is 657 for 17's and 691 for 16's. My current tires are 255x70x16 on stock aluminum wheels. So, my question is, what other items do I need to address with this change, and/or do I need to reset my computer for these larger wheels? Any assistance with my questions will be well appreciated. Cheers. Rooster
If you use 255/65/17 tires you don't need to change anything, they will be the same height and width as the originals or at least close enough to not affect anything.
691 - 657 is 34 .... that's about 5% so you will read 5 MPH off at 100 MPH and 3 MPH off at highway speed....... Not worth worrying about. Are you sure the ORIGINAL tires on the truck were not 255 x 75 x 16 instead of 255 x 70 ?
Some 2003 F-150's came standard with the 17" wheels and were equipped with the 265 X 70 X 17 tires from the factory, according to my brochure. So, there must be some correction factor on the computer to account for this change. Does anyone know of a Tuner that will allow you to make this change on the PROM or other module on board to make this change? Thanks.
It can be changed in the PROGRAM by the dealer... I don't know if there is that capability in one of the tuners or not.. I would guess some would do that.
