So I ordered my f250 diesel without properly thinking it through as I know a lot of others did, and was shocked at the 2200 payload sticker. I know I know I should have got the 350 and would have if I realized what the payload would be. It's a done deal now and I love the truck so...
Now, If I want to upgrade to a 5er, can I just add another leaf spring and inflate the tires to 80 (they are rated for 80) and add some air bags, would I then be safe getting a 5er with like a 2k lb pin weight? I understand I will be going way over the 2.2k it is rated for with the passengers, cargo etc, and I will technically be illegal, but would another spring, tire pressure and air bags be safe?
Any other options? I've always had bumper pull campers and never been an issue
You will be fine. The axle under the F250 was the same axle in the F350 for previous gens that had a higher payload. Add the bags and tow. I tow my 5ver with a pin weight of 2500 and its a non issue. The weight to watch is your axle weight and tire load rating. But ultimately that axle can handle much more. There are a lot of threads on this and you will get a lot of differing opinions.
