Hey guys in the process of swapping out the 360fe in my 69 f250 2wd for a 460. I used my 360 flywheel/clutch setup along with my 360 starter. Im also using flowtech headers for a 73-79 2wd. First problem im running into is I cant fit the passenger side header because it cant go back far enough due to hitting the header. Am I dropping this motor in wrong should I be bolting the header up first then fishing the starter in or do I need to go with a mini starter? Second problem im running into is my tall valve cover is hitting the brake booster. I have a 9 inch booster and I don't need much more room but its just close enough not to fit anyone run into this?
Thank you for your help, sorry for the lengthy post.
I don't think a 360 flywheel can be used in a 460. The part numbers are different. There was never a M/T 460 until the 1983 pickups. So I went with the late 60's and early 70's 429 M/T since it is the other 1/2 of the 385 series engine family. I compared those flywheel part numbers to the 390 Car and 360/390 truck flywheel part numbers. The FE engines and the 385 series engines take different A/T AND M/T flywheel/flex plate part numbers.

When, I did my last engine build I order a 428 fly wheel, online and had it shipped to my son in NV where we were going to do a father & son build.
Well we were putting the engine together an got to installing the pressure plate & clutch found that the oem pressure plate bolts 5/16 were to small and had to get 3/8" bolts. Then had to drill the pressure plate bolt holes so the 3/8 bolts to mount the pressure plate.
I looked at the box it came in and it said 460 ci on it.
Well it worked perfect.
Having a 428 crank an when having it all balanced the crank would cost $1000 to add 10oz. of weight to internal balance it. Passed on that cut the back side of the 460 fly wheel instead. Never any engine balance problem.
Well the pressure plate, I in put in was a was a New name brand pressure plate that was suppose to be for a truck. But surly must of been for a car.
Once I had 3000 miles on the engine the clutch would slip when getting on the pushing the throttle to the floor. So ordered a new 428 AM fly wheel an a new stage ll clutch kit and installed that along with a new fly wheel that now did not slip any more.
On my 64 which is on a 75 frame I used Hedman Hedders and I was able to slip mine in from underneath after the engine was in place.
I have a 75 factory brake booster and I have to remove the left valve cover to install the engine then I install it after it's in place.
Any Idea what you are using for mounts?
I personally wouldn't use the 360 flywheel but that's just me. I used a factory starter but I have an automatic. But you can get a mini starter from what I understand.
Do you read somewhere that you can use the 360 flywheel and starter on this swap?
