integrated brake controller problem, I think

What I have read is that on the 2019, the +12V pin (to charge the trailer battery) is not live unless the vehicle is in tow/haul mode. I can't personally vouch for the correctness of that, or that other such activity may or my not also be taking place.

As I have already stated, the dealer tested the controller yesterday and says it is operating to Ford specs. I don't doubt this; the problem is that Ford specs are apparently not conversant with entire classes of trailers out there today. See, for example, this posting thread.

By "making the 7-pin a dumb plug," I'm not talking about altering any wiring, I'm talking about setting the vehicle's own brake controller configuration to the absolute minimum interference necessary with the signals and levels available at that plug, hopefully to the behavior that would appear there if there were no integrated controller at all. I'd much rather just put the onboard controller to sleep temporarily than have to perform a lobotomy.

Out of curiosity, have you left the 7 pin plug disconnected and activated the trailer break-away switch? If so, did the trailer brakes apply?

Yes, immediately -- though only insofar as hand-spinning the wheels on one side. The brakes on this unit are disturbingly quiet, not like the major hum on my old trailer.

A detailed journal of my testing is available on the forum for my trailer, where I began this technical pilgrimage.

my 19 has power to the charge plug when NOT in tow haul mode. just has to be above idle.
