I have a 92 F250 with a 460 and I'm planning to add a few mods. From reading some of the previous posts it sounds like I am going to need a mass air flow sensor. Does anyone know approx. how much they cost and where is a good place to buy one. Thanks.....
Don't really know how much it would cost to convert it from Speed Density to Mass Air,but 1997 EFI460 truck engines used a factory Mass Air meter. You could either buy new pieces for the swap through a Ford dealer parts counter,or find a wrecked '97 model year 460-powered truck and get what you need.If you plan on a performance cam,and better breathing cylinder heads for your '92,you'll need to convert it to Mass Air. I have a mild RV-type cam in my '94 EFI460,but it works well with the Speed Density electronics.Hope this helps.

Its not that simple a mass air flow sensor is only part of the system. I have done the MAF conversion, Its well worth the investment in time. why don't you give us all the details like what mods have been made, what your planning and how involved your willing to get a mass air flow set up can be a pretty big setup especially when it requires converting many parts. Ill post a tech page here in the ford forum, from when i did mine so you can get an idea of what it requires, it also will give you a phone # to contact. Also feel free to write me and ask any questions i might be a little help. The MAF conversion is an excellent route to go since it opens so many performance doors but you must be careful to be sure that that kind of money is what you want to spend especially since it opens the door, it doesn't really increase performance too much. BTW the 1997 MAF was only on cali and NY trucks and used the EEC V a 100 pinn self tuning computer, it detunes with power mods that effect emissions.

Thanks a lot for the info. I had no idea that the conversion was so difficult and costly. I have removed the stock muffler and added a cheap aftermarket turbo muffler. I also had the E4od rebuilt and put in some tri-cummulator springs and a sonax valve which really improved the shifting. I plan to add a K & N fitler charger and possibly a chip. Long range goals are to add a cam, port and polish the heads, higher compression pistons, etc.
I was also wondering what other modifications you have had a good return on investment with. I have a 21 foot boat I pull with the truck and want to blow past the GM's and Dodges up the hills.
