I am in need of converting my truck, a 1991 F150 302 C6 automatic with BW1356 case, to a mass air flow system. Cam is to big, runs rich at idle and lean atthe top end (5500 RPM)
Besides Ford what are some other companies that offer the conversion?
Can the parts be picked off of a wrecked truck to fit mine? If so what year truck and what would I need?
Hey good idea, any engine modifications warrant the MAF convert, SDensity just can't adjust. I have a page posting on converting to MAF on a 460 which would essentially be the same as your 302. Early SDensity 302's use the same firing order, as to companies, Motorsport, Interactive, etc all have 302 kits. check out the 460 Late model mods MAF convert string https://www.ford-trucks.com/dcforum/80_96/4544.html#23
It might give you some ideas or help in your search.
You could hit a boneyard for a newer F-150 w/mass air and a manual trans or a C6, get the pcm and harness and mass air meter and swap it all and you are set.
I called a few places and I can get the mass air kit for around 600 dollars. I am going to go for it but I want to make sure that is what is wrong with it. Heres what I have and what is going on:
1982 block crank and rods. TRW forged pistons with 1965 289 heads 58cc chambers, ported and polished giving me a 10 to 1 compression ratio. Crane cams with 0.484 lift 290 degrees of duration and 226 degrees at 0.050 lift. Going through chromemoly pushrods, guide plates to 1:6 roller rockers. I am using flow tech short headers, and the stock intake and injectors.
Here is what is going on:
It will idle good and high (around 1500 to 2000rpm) when I first start her up. Then as it drops off it will fall to 750 to 1000 and act as if it is running to rich. It has the real choppy idle almost stalls. From 1500 to 5500(redline) it runs great though. No smoke or anything just good power.
I am going to run the codes and see what happens but if it needs mass air that's what I will do.
