After 9 months of working on my '51 F2 almost every day, I finally got to hear it run today!
After priming / cranking 3 times, it hung on and idled smoothly. The oil pressure held firm at 50 psi. The power steering works smoothly, and the power brakes do, also. I had installed a Lincoln Mkviii 2 speed electric fan with a Volvo fan control and BMW 2 speed temperature switch. All of that worked as it should... even my homemade fan control wiring harness... the fan came on at 180 degrees and cut off at @ 165 degrees. It never got hot enough to switch the high speed on.
I'm pretty excited that everything seems to be working so smoothly... I have never attempted to wire a vehicle before, (I'm not very comfortable working with wiring of any type), I had never rebuilt a vehicle carburetor before (although I have rebuilt lawnmower and atv/ motorcycle carbs before), I have never installed power steering before... there is a pretty long list of 'firsts' for me on this project.
Now all I need is to install my new Lokar shifter and come up with a gas pedal and I should be able to cruise around the yard some.
Well then you should have it ready for crusin the coast in Oct fte has a spot right on the main drag it is sponsored by the MS group a super bunch of guys.
You deserve to brag a little. Getting all those systems to work with no glitches on the first try, well that's a big deal. And having the 302 running smoothly, now that's a feeling that you just don't get every day, and is a huge stepping stone in the completion process. You have a lot to be proud of, so enjoy, and Keep On Rockin On.
Sounds great! Feels good to hear it run I know. I spent the better part of 2 years rebuilding a mustang and the day I heard it crank was a day I would never forget. They say you are half way there when you can crank it..lol
just my 2 cents, I would loose the fram filter. Almost lost 2 motors do to them.
