I have a 2011 F250 Lariat, 6.2L V8. The past couple months i have noticed truck jerking/lunging during acceleration in the mornings usually between leaving the house and getting on the highway. Over the last 2 weeks the problem has progressed and seems to last longer. I have tried fuel injector cleaner with no success. This morning was the worst so far and after all this time i finally saw the maintenance "wrench" pop up on the on dash. This was good news to me hoping that a local shop could read the code. However, when i dropped off my daughter and started back up the "wrench" went away. After warming up the problem seems to go away. This morning was so severe i lost speed and felt like the engine was going to stall.
I feel like this is related to the fuel system (injectors/pump/filter) but also haven't changed the spark plugs yet. My truck has 72,000 miles and otherwise is in good shape.

You can get a basic code reader on Amazon for $13 -Oxgord CAN OBD II Scanner Tool.
There are other tools available for under $40 that will provide access to pending data such as - BAFX Products 34t5 Bluetooth OBDII Scan Tool for Android $22 and Torque Pro software $4.99.
IIRC, the code was set because the compter expected to see a known ratio between the input shaft and the output shaft after 3rd gear was selected. In other words, it saw a ratio other than 3rd gear.
Went to OReilly Auto and their computer read "P0733", which i was told related to the 3rd gear.
I guess the next step is take it to a transmission shop for formal diagnosis.
had you replaced your filter/fluid sometime just before you were noticing this?. .I started having issues with slams and wierd down shifts and at tines it felt like the backend just hit a log. What happen isbi used a fully synthetic transmission fluid that was supposedly compatible. said so on the label. But i looked on the forum and found others that had issues with non motorcraft fluid. So i went down bought like 8qts of motorcraft transmission fluid from the ford dealer and problems went away and haven't come back over 6 months later.
Mine does that but it's my throttle.. I hate electronic throttles...
mine surges at initial acceleration, its the throttle body plate, worn out, its just over a hundred and change to replace the throttle body if i remember right. i personally have just learned to live with it. I had even replaced the TPS but that did nothing but waste money.
