Was driving thru Miami today, and saw the new f650, looked nice flatbed towing truck.I looked at the fender and to my surprise I see V10. Now I know v10 is a good reliable engine, I have one in my excursion. And i know its not the same like in my excursion but f650, huge flatbed tow truck wow.
One of the propane delivery companies around here has one. They converted it to run on propane, it's rated at 33,000 GVWR. It has disc brakes all around. It's not a bad truck, IMo.
Uhaul has several F650s with V10s in them.
I've run a F550 with a V10. It is an awesome runner.
I believe you can get them from the factory as bi-fuel - gas/propane or gas/natural-gas - just like you could back when the V10 first came out in the F-series.
My 2001 service manual has plenty of sections labeled "gasoline" and "bi-fuel".
My friend was telling me the v10 has had a long run, I told him the inline 6 in my f150 300 4.9 has had a longer run. Does the car have same power running propane like it would on gas . And would the mpg be same or less
Propane and natural-gas result in less power, I think, and it needs more of it, so MPG suffers. It's really for the city municipal fleets that need it.I could be wrong
I need to make a decision on which engine to put in my 2011 F650. I can choose between a 5.9 cummins and a 6.8 V10. I want to know the MPG for both cases. I also want to know how many miles per gallon an F550 can get with a 6.7 engine. THANKS!
Hello, we'll I have the excursion with the v10 I get 10- 11 mpg towing a travel trailer. I get 10 to 11 mpg still with travel trailer and about 10 people in car. Not towing I get 16- 17 mpg with me in car or 10 people. I just got back from trip to Tennessee from florida I was getting about 16.4 even in the mountains. I did not have to step on the truck to go up, like I normally do with my crv. I try to keep the truck at 2000 rpm and my speed at that is between 63- 64 mph. I don't know what gear I have but I don't think it's what the dealer sticker says 3.73. Around town 10 to 12 mpg
Would anyone happen to know, which vehicle would do better with a V10 engine, a 2017 F550 or a 2017 F650? Like, in terms of MPG? I'm not in the mood for a bull**** answer, I just want anyone who knows to come up and tell me straight up. Also, the same for a V8 power stroke engine.
Common sense says the F550 will use less fuel because of it's lower profile. But look at gear ratios and tire diameters and compare them to see if the overall gearing is higher or lower for each.

Also, things like gross weight, profile of what ever is mounted to the truck and how it is being used are going to huge factors in economy. Also, transmissions and gear ratios are going to be factors.
So, we need some more information to accurately answer the question. I'm guessing that the mileage might vary by two or three MPG.
I just put 2000 miles over 48 hours in an F650 with the V10 and about a 20K overall load (truck and load). We drove mostly highway, but probably 500 miles of 2 lane. The average was just a tad over 7mpg. This truck had the automatic in it. Was essentially brand new a the start with 2600 miles on it when we left out. This was burning mostly regular ethanol. Pulling hills, she would drop into 4th gear at 4500rpm to get up the hill at highway speeds. Moderately noisy.
