Gonna be driving without hood bolts...
Well, I wanted to install a power antenna in my '94 F150XLT but it started raining right as I got the last hood bolts out so I've got the hood down and pressed into the locking latch on the front and 2 shop rags at the corners on the back of the hood. I've got about a 15 minute drive to work, mostly on a 70 mph interstate. Think it'll be alright until tomorrow night?
Spring came unwound so I took it off to keep it fron falling out of engine bay while driving. Cant wait to put this back on as soon as I learn how.

Nope. The rags will be gone right away maybe before you even get one the highway so if nothing else the paint will get wrecked. But knowing how bad the aerodynamics are on these trucks, at higher speeds there is a reverse vortex in front of the windshield that lifts the wipers off the glass and it will do the same to the hood lifting it up off the hinges, so you'll be lucky if you don't completely lose the hood or severely damage something.

I gave you friendly folks the benefit of the doubt that I wouldn't have to deal with any of the stupid comments like the one you just gave me but I might use a few bungie cords or sonething on the back of the hood. I've never noticed the wipers trying to get airborne but I will do something nonetheless.

i did this once, on a truck i bought for parts. the hood latch literally broke, the hood went airborne at 45 mph on a gravel road.
at the very best, you'll scratch some paint, maybe tear up the hood latch or core support.
at the other end of the spectrum, lets just hope that flying hood doesnt go and hit someone elses car and cause an accident.
I'd stick with running without the hood. it looks silly, but no damage will be done that way.

Paul was exactly right about the high pressure point at the base of the windshield, which all cars have to some extent. That's how those hood scoops that face backwards toward the windshield work.

So, despite your protests, you heeded the advise of the "stupid" commenters and DID NOT do it the way you planned. In that case it would have been better to just say thank you and move on, IMO, instead of insulting those who were trying to help you by not telling you only what you wanted to hear.

Well that wasn't the topic of this thread. If you wanted advice on installing the power antenna then that is what you should have asked about and not about driving at 70mph with only the hood latch holding the hood in place.
