Advice for putting new floormat in

I got a reproduction floor mat for my 55 F350. It does not have the perforations to cut out holes for the gearshift and the e-brake lever. And it is much thicker than the original mats.

So how difficult is it to get the mat over the gear shift, the e-brake, and the clutch and brake pedals, and the gas pedal. Is it a two man job? I can easily remove and put the mat in my 54 myself but that has the e-brake mounted under the dash and the column shifter.

Any tips or advice? Can the e-brake lever be removed?

Yes, that is a tough job to get right abe. Can you pull the gearshift lever (careful of the lock pin) and the ebrake lever off? That would make it easier. Or if somebody around you there in PA had an old floormat you could use it as a pattern?

That was my plan originally, to pull out my old mat, put it on top of my new mat so I knew where to make the holes. But it is so brittle I think it will fall apart trying that. My plan now is to put the new over the old one.

So how does the gear shift lever come out?

My first (non experienced) thought was to use some sort of duct tape type product to cover the entire top surface of the old brittle one, to hold it together B4 you carefully removed it. A few rolls of duct tape are pretty cheap, then use it as a template. But paper sounds like it would probably be a lot easier. Just thinking out loud, which can be dangerous.LOL

That is an idea too, Jim.

This question is still out there. How do I remove the gear shift? I think there is a pin to remove the e-brake lever.....

I'm looking at my 56 shop manual and there is a pin that needs to be removed from under a cap on the shift lever..

I happened to already taken a screenshot of this.

Unscrew 7220, remove all the components you can underneath. You can then pull the pin 7B125 (be very careful not to drop it.) Then the lever will side right out.

I'm not 100% certain, but I think you have to remove the pin and bolt circled in this picture.
