Five star door panels

Hello Everyone:

I just spent an hour looking through old FTE threads on this topic. I'm searching my garage for the 2 door panels that I removed during tear down of my 52 F1 and haven't found them yet. As I remember, they were covered in vinyl and were sheet metal. I'm wondering if anyone has a pattern/template for cutting some new ones out? I think the vinyl should be the same as for the headliner, so I should have enough to cover them.

While I'm asking...My doors were scrapped and I don't think I pulled the channel that retains those panels. Does anyone know if that part has been reproduced or can be found for other vehicles? I haven't turned anything up yet.

I may end up screwing on some metal inspection panels on for now until I can get these 5 star parts figured out.

Very interesting. I didn't even know that my doors were missing that rectangular flanged apparatus for holding upholstery. I'm presently drafting up possible upholstery possibilities. I saw the holes but never knew the connection. After seeing this pic I know why those areas on my doors were so rusty to the point of grinding and filling.

While I'm asking for help, here's an easier question: can anyone who has a original or restored 5 star door post a pic of the interior?

Thanks!

Hi Mervy, I don't believe the 5 star trim was an option in 49. From what I've read, it started in 51.

Thanks firstrider. Nice truck! Super helpful. Looks like there are 2 panels: a sheet metal one at the top and a (cardboard) one at the bottom? Is the top one painted metal or was it covered? I vaguely remember tearing some dry rotted vinyl off of mine.

Top panel is metal w/ holes for door & window handle . Drivers side on mine came off a an F-5 big job truck in an obscure salvage yard in N. Wis & had a large rusted hole in it . The pass. side was fine .
The 2 panel frames also came from that truck .
You can make your insert panels from a very thin piece of hard board . The thinner the better plus the material takes up space . It needs to be thin as the groove in the panel frames is small . They were screwed on as this adds to the problem of space in the groove . I ended up op riveting them on as the head of the rivet was very thin .
Door panel pics and what is better than one truck ? 2 trucks

Well here's the door we prepped to go back on there. Looks like I'm missing the sheet metal to hold the panels and the arm rest. Now how much is that oversight gonna cost to fix? Hum. I might have to ask myself if I care that much...arm rests are nice though

I have a 52 F1 wth 5 star cab and original doors. They have a vinyl panel that covers the space where the arm rest, door handle and window crank are . Below that is another vinyl panel.

Will get you some pictures tomorrow in the day light, if it ever stops raining in southern New Jersey.

I just found this pic on eBay for an auction that was closed. That's how I remember mine. Vinyl covered sheet metal. My rust was even worse so I must have pitched them thinking mistakenly there was a repop part available. Now searching patiently for a panel and for parts to hang them from!

Yup, I know...lol. I'm actually using doors off a 52. They were the only doors I could find in my pile of junk that were any good when I cleaned up the farm. I think the doors were the same as the 51. These fit better than the 49 doors on my 49.

That's a really nice looking 52 you have there. What color did you use for the grille?
