Exactly they are junk on the Fords I turned mine off.

Huh?? The front camera that gives a view on the Sync screen has nothing to do with auto headlights.

Right, I dont have a front camera on my truck, wondering if the auto headlight camera can be viewed on the sync screen somehow. Maybe it wouldn't be any help anyways as the location is not anywhere near the normal sync screen front camera but just wondering if it can be accessed.

I had a 2019 F150 for a loaner and the auto high beam system is far supperior. When it is in auto there is a indicator on the dash. Press the turn signal lever forward and it forces high beams on and disables auto. Pull once towards the stearing wheel and it is back in auto mode. Pull once more and it is in low beam no auto. I wish my 2019 F250 worked this way. Anyway this can be turned on in Forscan?

Part of what you described is how it works on the F250, pressing forward turns the brights on, overriding the Auto function. I'm not sure about the pulling back part, never tried it.

I think they work pretty well and are great for not blinding people (though I understand that everything has tolerances and some people's systems may not be that great). It just gets exhausting with in-town driving, because they're constantly coming on and off (even when you can see around a corner that there is more traffic). I think they'd be great for more rural settings. I eventually turned mine off. But, on a longer road-trip when I was doing night travel, I turned it back on.

Well maybe the only difference is the indicator on the dash telling you what mode it is in. But seems to me if I force highbeam on a abandoned gravel road it still goes to low when coming to a stop. The F150 did not do that. My high beams go on and off while driving down gravel roads when light from yard lights incorrectly tells them to shut off. Annoying. I find they work better on the highway with other traffic.

Saw a video with a 2020 Tremor and it also has the auto headlight indicator on the dash so I am expecting that the 2020 now has the same set up as the 2019 F150. Way better. Wish there was a forscan method to enable that feature.

So while we are on this topic. On my other 3 vehicles that I have had auto high beams, they only would turn on if i had high beams manually selected. So when I was on the interstate or out in the country on the highway and turned the high beams on, they would automatically kick on and off as needed. In town, when I didnt have the high beams on, they would not kick on and off.

Am I somehow using this wrong on the ford? If it is selected they kick on and off even when I dont push the high beams on. Its a really stupid setup. Driving around in town at night they would kick on and off all the time. Ford screwed the pooch with this one IMO. Ram, Subaru, VW and every other vehicle I have drove with this feature worked great..... I don't see how anyone would think the Ford high beam setup works good, unless mine is messed up and not supposed to function like that

When you turn the dial to auto, the feature is on. It will turn the headlights on when it feels it's dark enough, and control the on and off of the brights. I'll have to read the manual again, but I'm pretty sure you can manually turn your brights on by pressing forward on the stalk, overriding the auto feature and keeping the brights on. No way to keep them off while in auto.

It sounds like you want the headlights to automatically come on when it's dark, and shut off when its light, but not have the brights in the mix full time. That would be better actually.

I turned mine off too. Useless IMO. AND it would blind cars that were perpendicular to my driving direction (cross traffic) where no actual 'light' was shining at me from their car. I also found that it didn't turn off soon enough for oncoming traffic when traveling on long, dark stretches of hwy. Stupid useless gizmo.

You can turn it off in the settings. And if I remember correctly, it's one of the few settings you can actually turn on/off even when moving, but I might be wrong in that. I've learned to just leave mine engaged all the time, but if needed, I can quickly jump into the settings to override it and turn off the auto high beams if I find myself in a situation where they're not working correctly.

I have auto high beams on my ‘19 F-150, my ‘19 F350 and my ‘19 Nissan Leaf. For me they work great. We also have a ‘15 Lexus RX450h without auto high beams and I miss the feature when driving it.

I've had good success with the auto feature when out on remote state roads before sunrise. My favorite Salmon/Steelhead spot is 2 1/2 hours away and there's a lot of jumpy deer between me and the fish. The auto feature comes in handy when there's very little traffic. Saved my butt a few times!
