06 Expedition, have been having issues with it running rough while driving , ck engine light will start blinking, occasionally will go solid, shows no trouble code but will clear the light. Replaced the fuel filter and it had a muddy looking fluids, truck ran pretty good for a week or so. Now it is surging when driving and spitting and popping, loosing power when going up the smallest hill. The last cpl days it been pretty consistent, before ,it was in intermittent at best, seemed as it was more common as the day went on. I'm fairly sure the cam issue is also an issue as it's tapping like a stuck lifter used to sound. It has 220,000 miles and have been running non ethanol fuel . Any and all ideas/info greatly appreciated. I'm a professional locksmith and this is my work vehicle
If the MIL came on, then one or more fault codes WILL be stored in the PCM's memory. If you cannot read anything, either the scan tool isn't capable, or there is a fault that is preventing storage or retrieval.
Next opportunity, try reading the codes without turning off power while the MIL is still on. There might, for example, be an open in the keep-alive memory power supply that's causing the NVRAM to reset when the power is turned off.
A flashing MIL always indicates a severe misfire, one that can damage the converters. Avoid driving, if possible, when this condition occurs.
