Hey guys! Im lost here, my 6.0 is building coolant pressure on start up, and the temperature is not overheating. I cant tell if the pressure is staying high while driving, but its blowing coolant passed the cap, any thoughts? Thermostat? The truck was on a coolant pressure tester for 24 hours and never lost a pound of pressure.

What is the psi of coolant? and does it get to 14-16 psi pretty quickly?
Coolant pressure (measured at the degas bottle) should typically be 8-12 psig, but it can get higher if you are running hotter than normal or if you are leaking combustion gasses into the coolant (from leaking EGR cooler or leaking had gaskets).
Another reason to leak coolant from the degas bottle is from a weak cap (it is a pressure relief device) or a bad seal at the cap/bottle surface (warped, nicked, etc).

All good points Mark, of course, coming from you!
Thats why I was asking if it gets to 14-16 quickly, EGR or gaskets is my thoughts.
He states its been tested, but didn't give the PSI results.
My bad guys, the psi jumps right up to around 16 psi or so, i can guarantee you anything related to the egr wont be a problem. Could it really be the head gaskets? Could it just be a thermostat?

Thermostats are cheap. If you want to throw one at it then go ahead. But typically the only issue your going to have with thermostats are coolant temps, not pressure. If you absolutely certain it is not the EGR cooler, then your last point is head gaskets.
Unfortunately your hoping for the best, but it sounds like the worse to me......

EGR delete, so no egr cooler, i cant believe its head gaskets, no oil or coolant mixing, no smoke on start up, but I guess things happen
As long as you have the correct, low amount of coolant in the degas bottle ('cause some dummy miscalculated the volume needed for the accumulator) the only reason for pressure to go that high without an EGR i know is unfortunately, well, you know.
Well s***, if its not one thing its another. This all started 2 weeks ago when I cracked the upper radiator hose, and coolant was spraying everywhere. I then replaced the upper radiator hose and the problem went away for a week, then in the middle of traffic, the check gauges light came on, so I pulled into the gas station and popped the hood. Ill be damned if the hose didnt break again. So I took the truck to my shop (been using them for years) and they said the radiator is broken, so I replaced the radiator... now we're here...
Building up pressure blowing things apart, degas bottle next then lower hose,it must be building past 16lbs faster than the cap can relieve it,you should see some black carbon floating around in the degas bottle when you look into it from the top after its cooled awhile. Cracked head, blown gaskets, injector cup area.

All of the above point to a rapid build up of high pressure. Might as well do the HG's before buying more expendable parts such as hoses and rads.
