You said 'chopped up' for conversion. Do you know of conversion shops to avoid? I hear that Diesel Conversion Specialists does good work, and Mash Motors in Kansas too. If there are bad one, let us know please
So my buddy bought a class A and is going to be selling his Excursion. V-10, 3.73, Eddie Bauer, 40k miles. Never seen snow and very minimal rain. Green with 2 tone tan/charcoal leather. He was thinking $20k I said no, he will be very lucky to get $18k and that's if he waited for the right buyer, which he is willing to do. I think he would be able to get $16-17k.
Anyone have any input?
I think your assessment is pretty reasonable. Might be a touch high, I'm thinking 14k but I do think if it's really really clean, with the right marketing and willingness to wait you could get 17k out of the right buyer. The question is though, what is the opportunity cost of that extra $3k?
If he puts in a bunch of time and effort in to spit polishing, marketing, and waiting and gets his $3k in 6 months, could he have gotten more than $3k putting that time and energy somewhere else?
My favorite year, I'd give him 10k to add it to my stable if it's decent. 11k if it arrived at my door. Otherwise there's a bunch of diesel options for a few k more.
Yeah some people really want the diesel, but there's plenty who specifically do not.
As far as service life. There are no new 7.3, 6.0, or 5.4 engines being made. They still make the 6.8.

I agree. It may be a bit high, but for the right person it will be the right price. As afar as marketing it. A clean low mileage X is its own marketing tool.
