He is averaging about right and doing better than a lot of folks. There are a couple mpg threads you can check out. Your not going to gain anything through the exhaust.

You can unhook the muffler without even removing it and the tailpipe from the hangers. I did this just to see what it sounded like. You can listen to as many as you want on YouTube, but it's just not like listening to it in person.
