V10 Question again

As I have posted before. I have a 4x4 CCLWB DRW pickup I bought with motor bad. I have been hunting an engine locally as this is a project that is on a tight budget. It will be a daily driver of about 100 mikes a day when I start back to work. My question is I found one engine with 100k for 1500.00 it's a complete from flywheel to fan and I have heard run. Now I have a gentleman wanting to sell me one with 80k but he's talking about things that he has done such as replacing exhaust manifold bolts, head bolts, spark plugs all gaskets water pump oil pan gaskets and bolts etc, he's wanting 2500.00. I know the things would be good but are they a must if I wish to put that kind of mileage on the truck or would I be just as well served with the 2500 motor. I understand theses things on a diesel but this is gas are they a pay me now or pay me later type thing.

TIA

Despite the fact that the more expensive engine has many components replaced, is there proof? Is that work worth $1000? Was the work done correctly?

Proof

There is proof that the work was done. My question I guess is unless there is an issue was or is it necessary for the V10 to live happily he is saying it's a must if your going to keep the truck which I am. Thoughts?

I don't know what your budget is, but if you are keeping it and driving 100+ miles a day, maybe you would want to consider a crate engine instead. It will be new and not rebuilt or re-manned. Depends on how much aggravation you are willing to absorb I suppose.

Sooner or later the exhaust studs will need to be done if they haven't been replaced yet. And I wouldn't swap in any motor without doing gaskets first. So how much will you spend to get the $1500 motor ready to go in with consumables? At 100k, it will be time to address those items.

All that stuff is a pain to do in the truck, but out of the truck is fairly simply. I would buy the cheaper motor that I've heard run, and spend a few bucks on the studs and gaskets and do it myself. Everything will be easy to get to on an engine stand.
