Tried using the search function without much luck. My brakes started squealing so I know it's time to replace. I use my 2wd 250 truck for work mainly and it has some weight on it. Most of my driving is stop and go. I use it to tow my Jeep maybe 3 times a year as well.
What are the best pads to go with? From what little I found using the search function it seems Hawk LTS or OEM from the dealer, not Motorcraft from the parts store.
Ceramic is quieter but semi-metallic has better performance, and brake fade is less likely. So unless you're hauling in the mountains with an automatic transmission and no engine brake, ceramic is a better option.
I personally run Centric C-Tek rotors with Posi-Quiet ceramic pads in every brake job I do (with the Permatex high-temp ceramic grease, and replacing hardware of course). The brakes last longer, and stay quieter throughout the life of the pads.
I have used Powerstop pads and rotors on my Toyota Tacoma, my 08 F350, my friend's 00 F350, another friends 99 F350, a. 04 Chevy Suburban and a 99 Ram 1500. All with good results, They are a little cheaper than going with Napa or comparable and I have been very happy with the performance and longevity of them. I don't tow really heavy stuff often, but my truck definitely gets to work hard a couple times a month.
