boxlink, cleat {difficulty} **sigh**

Unpacked the plastic cleats to put in the boxlink braces yesterday. The instructions and the Ford video (apparently copied here
at about second 23 ) shows them attaching them to the brace with ease. All four of mine are so stiff I could not get any of them installed, or even slightly inserted. There are no apparent obstructions on the back side of any of the braces. Am I supposed to use a small mallet?

Mine slipped right in no issues at all. I use them all the time for additional tie-down points.

If it's like a etrack one side goes in first. The latch side goes in last

Place the tie down portion in the meat of your hand with the lock facing your palm. Use your middle two fingers to flex the tab back and guide the T into the hole and pull up. Release the tab and lock with key in place. It's like the seats in the Transit Connect... once you know how to do them you make it look easy to everyone else, but it's not the most intuitive concept and you might feel like you're breaking something until you do it once (of course if you do break something, then you did it wrong!)

I used the forward 2 cleats to secure my truck box. I used a Oak wood block between the cleat and the box for spacing. I used Lag bolts from the cleat into the block.

Frantz, I will try that, thank you.

lkbrow1, I can't follow your response, are you saying the block is between the cleat and the boxlink brace? or the cleat is insert in the boxlink brace and you have the block bolted to the cleat?

The oak block is between the toolbox and the boxlink cleat in the gap shown. Block not in picture.

I can get my cleats in, I just can't get the key to turn all the way on all of them. Something isn't right. I'm not sure if it's the operator or the equipment.

I did mine this past weekend, I was going to describe how to grip and lift it, but it looks like Frantz explained it pretty well above. you need to slide it up straight and need to lift with a little force, btu straight up so having your fingers under it and levering it off the meat of your palm will get it in.

I had to use some graphite lock lubricant on mine. Once that was in there they all turned freely.

Mine worked until the bedliner was sprayed on.....

Added flat fender washers on the screws behind the bracket (sprayed washers with bedliner)

Works again.

I went through the same thing and had to play with it for a bit to figure it out.

Kinda link pinching a big stiff taco. When folded, slide it in, bottom to top, release the taco and lock it in.

box cleats force and finesse

what Frantz said below helped me i was about to head to the dealer to ask for help when i saw the below and decided to try one more time. i recommend both feet in the bed of the truck keeping it level, twist it back and forth one end goes up first then keeping it level use some force to raise it straight up. it takes some force and some finesse.
