I recently bought a new 2016 Super Duty Crew Cab diesel in Levi blue. I absolutely love the truck. Having an eye for detail and being somewhat **** (sometimes a curse ), I have noticed a flaw in what I think is the clear coat on the right rear door. You have to be standing at about a 45 degree angle to the rear of the door in the sun light...There is what appears to be a visible vertical ridge in the middle of the door about 10 inches long. After allot of scrutiny, some research, and an opinion from a friend that does auto body work, I'm 100% convinced its a factory clear coat flaw and not a paint flaw or damage repair. I will live with it. I think trying to buff it out or hitting with a clay bar will just exasperate the situation. I'm curious if anybody else with a new Ford Super Duty has experienced a similar flaw in their clear coat.
Mine is not a clear coat flaw, but what I and a body shop believe is a lack of proper paint coverage. Can actually faintly tell it's not as thick at one point from good to doors. Like you it's at a particular angle. Tried to get Ford to do something. But they have to take pictures and had to get pictures to show it.
Like you I'm a perfectionist. And not sure what they can do. Clear coat looks good and everything waxes up nicely. Mine is white.
I had a similar vertical stripes on both of my half doors, you could definetly see the difference at certain angles.....ford service mgr looked at it and agreed.....ultimately it was fixed.....they think that there was a switch of clear in the spray booth......good luck to ya.......just wanted to add I am pretty meticulous about my vehicles and they did a great job on it
Thank you to both of you for responding. Good to hear it's not just me. My biggest mental intercourse, after popping for a brand new truck, was the possibility it was damaged and repaired, as it sat on the lot for 9 months before I came along. I even asked the salesman the day I bought the truck if there had been any damage repair while it was on the lot. The paint is flawless, even on the door in question, it waxes up great, so I am speculating it's a clear coat flaw. Almost looks like the sprayer stopped in that one spot for a micro second. At this point, I'm not unhappy enough to pursue Ford to fix it. I know nothing that is mass produced will be perfect. My wife, knowing how I am about attention to detail, simply rolls her eyes when I mention the flaw..
