Clear Coat???

I did a quickie Plasti-kote can spray job (Ford red) on some rust repairs on my sons 87 F150. A couple days after finishing I read the instructions!
Supposed to cover the stuff with a clear coat. Can this be done after using the truck for a week? Is it necessary?
Also, The plasti-kote red-oxide primer turned fuzzy over the glazing puddy - What happened?
I realize these are stupid questions, but they're the only ones I have right now.
Thanks,

Well, this is just an educated guess but here goes. If they are saying it needs a clear coat, then it probably needs a clear coat. I would clean and degrease the area, scratch it with some 600, and then clear coat it.

By the way, if the paint you are talking about is in fact a primer, there is no doubt in my mind it needs to be clear coated. Rattle can primer is not waterproof. Without a topcoat. it's only a matter of time until water leaks in and destroys all the work you have done.

Hmmm. Could be a problem. If you are using non-catalized glazing putty (the type the comes in a squeeze tube and no mixing is needed), the putty may have reacted with the primer. The putty is just thick paint and it takes a longggg time for it to dry completely. The solvents in the putty could of affected the primer.

On the other hand, if by fuzzy, you just mean that you can see where the putty was applied, that is normal. All you need is additional sanding and primer to make it disappear.

Clear Coat???

Aekisu,
Thanks for the "how to" on clear coating the ford red topcoat.

Also, By turning "fuzzy" I meant the primer looked like a Chia pet over the cured puddy. Don't recall how long i let it cure, but will give it more time next time.

Thanks again for the help!
