The idle timer on my 2017 F350 6.7 shows 21 hours with the engine timer at 84 hours. That is obscene !! The only time I idle the truck is a minute or 2 at cold startup, and the "suggested" 3 to 5 minutes at shutdown. I did notice that the hour meter shown on the tripometer runs even with the engine off.
Seems normal to me. Mine shows wayyyy more idle hours than I figured it should have. I can only assume it's counting redlight idle time and traffic time as idle time.

I believe you re correct. My thinking is that ford figures some genius would just leave the truck in drive or reverse and set the park brake very hard to try to get around idle hour accumulation. Just My thinking though...
I did the math on mine the other day and it's right at 40% idle time. aside from about 4 hours worth of letting the baby sleep in the car seat all it's been is idling while I drop the kids off at daycare and a few minutes when I think the turbo should cool
I think it's showing time when engine is below a specific RPM. So when coasting to a stop, going slow, traffic lights, stop signs, etc. it's adding up. That's the only thing I could think of.

I'd bet money it counts idle time as any time the speedometer reads 0
