As I have mentioned in previous threads I am new to the super duty ownership. But i must say, loving every mile of it.
I have been reading through some of these forums about towing and payloads. A lot of people are asking if they tow a specific item. I am more curious on what the actual "legal limits" are of this truck.
I have a 17 F250 lariat FX4 crew cab. With after market mayham wheels and Nitto Grapper G2 tires (which are awesome by the way).
Limits are really what is on your door cert per axle or your tires max load (found on the sidewall at max psi).
Some go off of the GVW of the truck, I never did. I use my registration and axle/tire limits. You can always register for whatever you are going to actually carry for payload.
A lot depends upon your state requirements as well.

All states are not the same. I can't pick my payload, my state registers based on my paperwork I get from the dealer/Ford. If I'm 11,500, that's what I must register for and have no option to change it.
Keep in mind your aftermarket wheels and tires might not meet the same load standard as the factory ones as well. Legal varies by state. Here in Pa you can choose registration between the vehicle weight and the GVWR for single truck, or if in combination with trailer up the the GCWR of the truck. The federal DOT can of worms gets opened if you do any sort of commercial work (including using the truck for a non-profit). Easy questions don't always have easy answers!
If you are a resident of Oklahoma and own a dually Super Duty and tow anywhere near the weight limit you must have a CDL. At least that's what I understand.

I'll assume that "legal" means compliant with Ford's specifications and ratings.
We need to know more about your truck. For example, which engine, which axle ratio, and the actual wheel- and tire sizes. Also, what major options, especially the camper package and/or HD Tow Package.
Check the payload label (example) on the driver-side B pillar to find the payload spec for your particular truck. Separately, your truck's GCWR will depend on your truck's configuration details. "We" will need to look through the RV and Trailer Towing Guide and make adjustments based on these details.
Finally, do you have specific towing/hauling plans for your truck: "enclosed" trailer (RV, car, etc.), "work" trailer, 5th wheel, and/or slide-in truck camper?
