Ok, so we recently bought a 1998 E250 van with the 5.4 triton. It has a spun bearing, and we decided to put another engine in it instead of rebuilding. So my question is, what years and models are compatible? I have near about exhausted Google trying to find out. Does anybody know?
97, 98, 99 year model
5.4L long block from a van or truck are a direct replacement.
If you get a truck long block some things will need to be changed like the oil pan & pick up tube, trans dipstick tube, external stuff like that.
Simple cross check for fitment is to go to Rockauto.com, select year, model, engine, select part *engine*, click on "blue" part number and a pop up window will appear on fitment.
An F series should also fit, only real difference is the oil pan, vans have a rear slump, same as a 4 wheel drive F series. If you come a cross a junk pick-up, you'll need to remove all the accessories anyways to remove the engine from the van, and just reinstall the van accessories.
