Oil Pressure Issues

So yesterday I was on the trail and got to hot rodding a bit and noticed that I lost ALL oil pressure.
I shut it down and pulled it back to the trailer, when I got home I started digging into it.
I pulled the pan, oil looked good, pulled the pump and tested it with a drill, seems to pump just fine. Next I pulled the bearing caps, journal look good, no copper showing, same with the connecting rod bearings.
Put it all back together with new oil and filter, now I get very little pressure.
Until yesterday I had 65 psi cold and 40 psi hot.

I am at a loss here, it is almost as if there is a galley plug missing or something.

Any ideas would be great, I have tried everything I can think of.

For future searches:

Found it, bent push rod and lifter pooped out on the #6 piston exhaust, easy fix.

Yes, glad you found it. The lifters are crucial in these engines.

Well the saga continues, due to my error of not enough lube on the lifter and the cam lobe I will be replacing the cam next week.
The lifter apparently got hot and bound in the bore and wiped the lobe, so that sucks.
Good news is the bore is good and tight so no damage there, just the cam and lifter.

What cam are you going with? And, you are replacing the lifters as well - right?

Too bad about yer wiped lobe....a question out of curiosity: Did it happen to be #2 cylinder's intake lobe/lifter?

I don't understand how ONE lobe would get wiped, but I have a postulate........

I haven't followed any of your posts, so I gotta ask....
Original cam? Aftermarket cam? Lifters?

It's a Comp Cams 32-242-4 cam.
I will be replacing all the lifters at the same time.

It was the #6 exhaust that failed, first failure was an over rev that broke the push rod, then on replacement I failed to lube the lifter and lobe properly which caused excess heat to wipe the the lobe.
All other lifters and lobes are just fine.

ugh! expensive lesson.. yeah lifters need lube and when even replacing just one lifter, it still needs broke in at 2500rpm for 20-30 minutes.

I just checked the cam specs. Nice !

The lift is higher than the OE lift.

Assuming you have OE springs, I'd strongly suggest getting K32-242-4.

Also, if you're ordering direct from Comp, rather try Summit, as they are at least 10% cheaper !!??

Good luck next weekend !
