I started my '16 6.7 this am and drove it about a mile.
The check engine light came on and at the same time the display said "Reduced Power". I decide to turn around and try to make it back to my shop but shortly after turning around the display said "Low Fuel Pressure" and within a couple of hundred yards it shut down leaving me stranded by the side of the road.....
I called my local dealer who gave me the Ford Cares 800 number. I got a flat bed in about 1.5 hours which I didn't think was too bad considering I live in the country and they brought it to the dealer. The SA said it might be a couple of days before they could look at it as they were pretty busy...
Any idea what it could be? The engine is stock with 9100 miles on it...
I bet it's the fuel system, first thought is that you use diesel additives and the little plastic disk in the bottle cap fell inside he fuel tank. It's the perfect size to bock the fuel intake. When it happens the symptoms you describe happen.
Posting the codes could help as you could have had multiple EGT or NOX failures too. I just picked what I thought was "most common" without having any other information.
don't even mention using an additive to the dealer, they will automatically just to conclusions.
Could be a clogged fuel filter, or a failure in the hpfp, who knows at this point.
Be prepared for water in the fuel, which also will not be covered. But you can turn in a claim where you bought the fuel and with your insurance company for the repairs if that is the case.
Keep your fuel receipts.
Something else, perhaps a EGT sensor. Although they suppose to have corrected that issue to where it just throws a code now.

Reason: added info
I do keep all my fuel receipts for work so that's not a problem. I buy my fuel from a newer station that has a fairly good turn over so the fuel should be relatively fresh.
I never saw a water in fuel notice on this truck. I had that in my '06 and regularly drained it.
With the low fuel pressure warning mentioned in the first post, I think we can rule out any EGT sensors or anything related to the emissions system. It is something between the suction in the tank, and the fuel pressure sensor on the high pressure rail. Anything in between could be the culprit. Hopefully it is just a cardboard disk.
I had this same kind of issue. Ended up the PCM was replaced. Some voltage wasn't reading correctly back to the PCM.
For others that are reading. Carry a clear glass jar/bottle in your truck. Should you have this type of issue having your own fuel sample could help you IF you need to argue the warranty issues or need to go after the fuel station. I say this as my tech told me first directive from Ford for anything potentially related to fuel systems is a sample from the drain. If it's contaminated, they stop work and go back to the owner.
Adding an extra set of filters prior to the pump is CHEAP insurance.
I've had 2 different instances of this. The first was the quick connect fitting where the fuel line tee is at the upper fuel filter broke. Towed and fixed under warranty and recently my 37 gallon tank has turned into a 34 gallon tank. Was driving up to pick a car up for my daughter and I got the low fuel pressure warning. Slowed down and pulled over and the truck died. I had gotten the low fuel warning light a couple of minutes before and had 5 miles before the fuel station I was headed to. Called someone to bring fuel. Put about four gallons in and had to disconnect the fuel lines at the upper filter as it didn't want to seem to prime. it was all foam. when I finally got it started and to the station and filled it I calculated I had 3 gallons left in the tank when it died. I'm not sure why it is foaming but I ran it low again to the low fuel light to check, filled it with 3 gallons left and it would not start on the first try. I had to cycle the key several times to bleed the system. The only thing I've done differently recently is to put opti-lube summer blend in instead of the diesel fuel complete I've been using. I'm going to try going back and running the tank low again just to see if it makes a difference but I don't know why the fuel is foaming so badly.
Hi everyone. I thought I would let everyone know what happened in case this comes up with anyone else.
The dealer ran the codes and it was listed as P008A which is somewhat generic saying the fuel pressure is low.
The dealer ended up replacing the fuel pump and so far (knock on wood) everything is OK.
This was done under warranty with no cost to me.
OTOH when I went to pick up the truck I did a walk around before starting it and noticed that someone had STOLEN my tailgate!!!
To top it off the dealer says their not responsible and to file it with my insurance company..Can you believe that??
I was always under the impression the work order usually states something like" items inside the vehicle.....". Nothing about the whole vehicle. Read the paperwork they gave you.
That stinks about your tailgate. I recently had to deal with a similar situation involving my camper. While my fifth wheel was at camping world for warranty repairs, I received a call from the service advisor letting me know that someone had apparently hit my camper, in their parking lot, and I should file an insurance claim so they could repair it for me. I didn't take that news very well. After a very tense meeting with the GM, they decided that they would take care of the repair. It was funny how they argued that they had no responsibility for the damage because I had signed their service agreement which relieved them from responsibility for anything that happens to a camper in their custody.
