Introduction/First Post
Wanted to post an introduction as I've been lurking for about a month, trying to get details on upgrades, mileage, parts etc. I recently was gifted my grandfathers 1977 F250 2wd Custom Camper Special in copper metallic with a 460 and 3 speed C6. He bought it off the lot here in the bay area. I'm not sure which GVWR version it is but will get details on that when its parked in my driveway! I believe 145k is on the odometer, dual tanks, everything is factory (a motor rebuild at 88k unsure why), and hauled a 12 foot slide in camper all over North America. The camper has been out of the truck for about 10 years and has been just a sunday driver since the camper came out.
It has a few hiccups at the moment, which I'm sorting out slowly. Backfires, won't shift into third unless manually put through gears on the column, what I think is a rear main seal leak. I have the original 5 volume 1977 Truck shop manual. It's been on my father in laws driveway for about a year and started monthly, so I'll be going through the carb, draining fuel, fresh oil/filter, etc. My son is three and its really going to be his someday, but I'll be taking care of it until then.
I do have a question on smog as I'm in CA. It passed smog two years ago, and I'm assuming it will pass smog this year once I have it running right. I want to make sure I'm armed with the right info when I go into the smog shop. I'd like to put a different carburetor and cam into it at some point but will cross that smog bridge when I get there. Because of the GVWR and dual tank it's basically the sniffer test and visual to pass? My grandfather only lives about 5 miles from me, so I'm hoping to use the same smog shop as he has throughout the trucks life. I'm in San Jose, ca if anyone has any suggestions

Congrats on inheriting a family heirloom.
and your plans to keep it that way,
a couple of quick pointers
be sure to read the "stickies" in red
lots of crucial info on our trucks,

second be sure to join the NorCal chapter you will find a few members who are close to you up there.
third, post pictures of your "new to you" truck, We here like pictures
(yeah we are that kinda sick )

so don't be afraid to ask any kind of questions on what ever kind of hiccups you experience.
as to you transmission troubles i would recommend checking the fluid level, then if need be have it serviced could be as simple as a dirty filter inside, also check the vacuum hoses
If your in doubt about it passing smog here in commiefornia, go and talk with the smog tech at the shop where the truck is known and get some pointers and see if they will run you off a diagram for your truck, it worked for me
p.s.
metallic copper

Everything is very clean, body has a few dents and dings but it was used as a truck and will stay that way! I charged the batteries last night and it turns the starter just fine. Both tanks are empty so I'm going to drain them run some gas through them to be safe. I can see a few vacuum hoses that look like the ports have deteriorated and need to be replaced. All in all, it won't take much to get her running again shortly.
It it looks like it has 117k on the bodyroughly 50k on the rebuild.

Though it doesn't look dark enough, the color option on the dealer docs say the color is dark cinnamon glow.
I also found this under the seat and explains the horn speaker in the engine bay.
