I need some fightin' words. My friend wants to put a 350 chevy in his jeep wrangler now. I talked him into a 302, but then he changed his mind. His 2.5L 4 cyl wasn't doing the job. He decided to change everything out. Other then a 350 is cheaper to build, what arguments can I make that will get a 302 or 351 in that jeep! I don't know much about the pros and cons of the two engines. He's not going to go nuts on it with all kinds of mods. He wants it to be carburated though. I need somethin that'll help me change his mind again! Thanks.
Primary rig is Green Thunder:

Then theres:
99' Mustang GT 4.6L
88' F-250 Heavyduty 4x4 351/c6
95' Mercury Cougar 4.6L V-8
80' E-350 300/6 with a
3 spd column shifter. Weighs around 7,000lbs w. 65mph top speed, who wants to race me!
With the aftermarket support that the 302's and 351W's enjoy now, I'd question whether a 350 is any cheaper to build these days. My guess is it would be too close to call. Power outputs are gonna be nearly the same as well. If he is more inclined to one or the other I doubt there is an argument you can make that will change his mind. I love Fords....that is my reasoning. But that might not work with him. The only other thing would be........"why follow the crowd and use a 350, when you can do just as well and be a leader with a 351W"?
The ford would be nice, but Advanced Adaptors has kits for installing mostly chevy engines in jeeps. The chevy swaps are more common for some reason. The kits have everything to be able to use jeep or chevy transmissions as they have bell housing and motor mount adaptors. Check it out first for ease of installation.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 20-Aug-02 AT 10:24 PM (EST)]Well, one thing is that the 302 is physically smaller (not quite as tall and a little shorter front to back) than a 350 and will require less "massaging" of the firewall and fenderwell(s). Therefore, it will have a higher h.p. to weight ratio.
