OK, so I've ordered and tried two different LED replacements for the front turn signals. I like to idea of switchback LEDs so they are white when on and amber when using the turn signals.
Here's the problem:
Both sets of LEDs I've ordered so far, do not stay in the socket. The stock bulb snaps in definitively, but these LEDs, while they do sorta snap in, a slight bump, makes them literally pop right back out of the socket.
Based on the bulb, this is a 7444NA:
7444NA should be a 7443 Switchback LED. I've tried a set from superbrightleds.com and a set purchased off of eBay, and they all pop right out with the slightest touch. Its real fun fishing them out of the turn signal housing with a magnet when they pop out after installation...that only happened the first time. After that, I've been testing before installing, to see if they stay in. Comparing the bases, all I can see is the LEDs do not seem to have as steep of "ramps" on the base to hold them in, and that may be the problem???
So, someone must have purchased a set that works. Can you help a brother out?
I was browsing YouTube and came acreoss this. His switchback led looks a lot different than the one in your photo. There's an 800 number in the description.
The switchback led is shown at ~8:45 in the video.

They work just fine, didn't hear a click but their tight. (have to pull to get them out).
Very bright. Very white and the amber matches the mirrors.
When you open the door to get out it flashes on amber and then turns white for however long you have it set to stay on, when you exit the truck @ night the bright white light is nice.
Thanks for the update Hack. It concerns me that they do not click in like the glass bulb.
I found these, which have an interesting look and configuration of the LEDs. The ramp I'm talking about (between the contacts), looks very pronounced in the picture, and should click in the holder better than the two I tried. We'll see. They're listed as 800 lumens. I ordered a couple to see how they will work and I will definitely provide feedback here.
After receiving the above bulbs today, I plugged them in and again, found they do not "click in" and hold tight. When this happened with the previous bulbs, I was focused on the distance from the bottom of the LED's plastic base vs the original glass bulb, to the "ramp" that locks it in the socket.
After looking closer tonight and some further thinking..., what I found was the LEDs were not seating deep enough in the socket, to stay (snap) in. So, I carefully ground off some of the plastic base, on each side of the base, and the LEDs now stay in without issue. Still kicking myself for not considering this may have been the problem with the previous LEDs.. (EDIT - Both extra sets of LEDs have been sold. - 5/16/17)
Here is the base comparison, where the distance between the "ramp" and the base of the bulb difference can clearly be seen:
The pen points to where I carefully ground off some of the plastic base on each side, to make them work.
This is a new LED that is not modified yet...
I'm interested. I want to do this mod when I get my truck.
PM me and I can show you two different type of bulbs I have, and what they cost me. You do need either FORScan or a couple resistors to eliminate hyperflash on the dash indicators. The LEDs themselves will flash at normal rate regardless.
