guys stay away from Hawk Ford oaklawn,IL one of my techs brought his van in for service and a mechanic on their staff stole his tools the dealership refuses to do anything about it. we've filed a police report as well and the dealer refuses to acknowledge it eve happened. I procure the vans through Leaseplan and they've pulled them as servicing and supplier from their network.
We fired a long time salesperson because he stole change from a customers car. That being said, I'd have to wonder if you can be 100% sure that the tools were stolen by the tech at the dealership. It's plausible of course, but it's plenty of he said/she said unless the stolen stuff turns up or you get a confession. I know I would want my company to go to bat for me if there was nothing but an accusation charged against me.
we have a bar code scanning system and geo location that provides us info even when the doors were last locked, the tools were placed in the van then the doors were locked and unopened until the van went to the dealer. It is with very high probability that an employee at that dealership has some ne tools.
I don't disagree, but let me play devils advocate. If I was your employee and wanted to steal some tools, I'd set up this exact sort of scenario. Say for a moment your own guy stole the tools, it doesn't seem you've even considered him as a possible culprit. Now you know you're own folks better than the dealerships folks but I wouldn't want to be quick to blast out hate on the internet without actual proof or evidence other than when it went missing.
Just throwing this out there, I can take a picture of a bar code with my phone and then scan the picture as it is displayed on my phone with the bar code sticker nowhere near the scanner.
Same deal with a GPS asset tag, it can be unstuck just as easily as it got stuck onto the "asset".
The people who know where the tag is hidden and know how the tracking system is utilized are also the most familiar with how the system can be circumvented.
